This past week, Mates of State sat down at their Twitter feed and answered a bunch of questions asked by you, their fans. You can read the entire interview after the jump!

Fan Taylor Flanagan asks: How involved were your kids with the album, and did they inspire any songs on the album?

As much as our children mean to us, contrary to popular belief, they don’t help us actually make the records. However our subject matter is highly personal so the kids will often inspire us.

Patrick Keith asks: What bands/artists inspire polarized opinions between the two of you?

Jason went through this phase where all he played was Leonard Cohan and Nick Cave and it got a little a little dark for my taste. But usually we like same music.

Sean Michael Bailey wants to know: Where did you two meet?

J: We met in college at University of Kansas. We were both playing in separate bands and love at first site.

Fan Matrix Knudson asks: When do you expect to release your next album?

As soon as possible. But that has many variables. Did you know we just released one 3 weeks ago? But as soon as we write enough songs and record them to our satisfaction and mix it and master it, and do the art, etc

Ben Simon asks: Do you think you’ll ever go back to your previous style of song-writing where you allegedly each write pieces of songs separately and stitch them together?

We don’t really plan on repeating anything we’ve done before.

Emily Johnson wants to know if you ever think about making a children’s record.

I think kids can already listen to our music. We do a specific children’s song every now and then.

Fan Julie Handy asks: What do you do when you’re unmotivated/uninspired/just in a funk? What if you don’t feel like working together?

Karate, books, movies, meditate, go watch other bands, travel, etc. If we don’t feel like working together, we don’t. We work separately too.

Justin Ryan wants to know if you have any plans for a b-sides album?

There are a couple new b sides out there. Maybe some day.

Ryan Engblom asks: if you couldn’t play music, what would you do for a living?

Kori would be a teacher or professional dancer, Jason a surgeon or professor

Matrix Knudson wants to know: Do you ever just listen to your albums? If so which album/track has the highest play count? Which has the lowest?

Usually when we first finish a record we listen non-stop; “Unless I’m Led” and “Sway” got the most this time.
