You asked, he answered! After the jump, read the full transcript of our Twitter Interview with Neon Indian.

Fan @waytayoh wants to know: What was your very first synthesizer?

Prolly the Casio Rapman that I got when I was 5. In high school I dug it out of a closet and ran it through some distortion pedals. Made some terrible songs with it at first.

Fan @bobbym529 asks: Can you tell us about the Todd Rundgren influence? Would you ever want to work with him?

I guess a found out about him a few years ago right around the point when I started working on music. Walked me through a lot of my formative impulses. He took a lot of polarizing directions that I found fascinating. I’d probably be way too speechless to work with him if I met him though #meetinheroes

Fan Edbird BirdJohn wants to know what your favorite mexican food is?

A really intense Monterrey regional taco dish called a Pirata. They cram like 3 plates worth of things in that lil’ flour pouch.

Patrick McQueen asks: I was wondering what some of the samples are that were used on the newest album?

The new record was actually completely free of samples. :) Except of course those punching sounds in ‘Arcade Blues’.

Justin Weiss asks: How did you enjoy collaborating with The Flaming Lips?

Those guys are true blue psychedelics. One of the best experiences of my life was the recording hours between 2 and 7 am. Lots of messed up, wonderful noise. Can’t wait to do more stuff with them.

Fan Adam Duvall wants to know: What’s the story/inspiration behind the cover art for Era Extrana?

I wanted it to feel like a little eerie and anachronistic, as if trying to bat the camera away to hide something slightly unhuman. I had worked with a few people to try and get that visual idea off the ground until eventually. Having a 20 minute phone conversation with Focus Creeps and coming back the next day with this beautiful image. They Rule.

Henry Lee Bauer asks: What artists do you think remix your past album the best? You have any plans to release an extended Era Extrana album?

I think my favorites were the Bibio “mind, drips” one and Javelin’s re-edit of “If I knew I’d Tell you”. Not sure if I’d do a remix record for this one, already working on LP3 and VEGA. :)

Nick Allard asks: Where do you find inspiration for your songs? I know Era Extrana was inspired by Alan’s trip to Helsinki but what else?
Probably something as simple as conversations. There’s few things better than being out somewhere and midsentence. Getting the itch to go write about whatever moment you happen to be in. I usually try to write from experiences. This record was definitely no exception there.

Gustavo Rock asks: Who/which are your most influential artists that have inspired you to become Neon Indian
Sakamoto, Braxe, Sumner, Rundgren, and Derbyshire.

    Hi,

I’d like to inquire about doing a sponsored blog post – about 150-300 words that talks a little bit about RC toys and is about our site http://www.xenonproject.com. We sell Remote Control Toys (RC Toys) and I thought we might be a good fit for your readers/visitors. If you’re interested I can also include an exclusive discount coupon for your readers too…:)
Our budget is around $15 for the post. Is this something you’d be open to?
Also if you have some other sites just send them over and we might be interested in doing a sponsored post on there as well!

    Regards,

    Jeff

Great interview with neon indian. The only thing I didn’t get was the question about mexican food. Really? Out of all the questions you could have asked you decided to ask about his favorite mexican food?
