I’ve been ambivalent at best about Stieg Larsson’s dark, bloody mega-bestselling trilogy, featuring a crusading journalist and a body art-loving young computer whiz (She may be skinny, but she’s strong! And she’s had a boob job!) who team up to solve crimes. The title character is supposed to be hard-as-nails and independent and wise beyond her years and utterly unique, but she’s never quite felt three dimensional to me. In my mind, she’s had “male fantasy” written all over her from the get-go. So I’m eager to see how Lisbeth Salander will be depicted in David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. One thing’s for sure–the Karen O. and Trent Reznor cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” that accompanies the film’s trailer is badass, and I think it bodes well for the overall tone of the movie.

I am not convinced it will be better than the Swedish language version, Noomi Rapace did an excellent job as Salander…
As much as a director has another “vision” of the movie, I think the original really will be Hard to beat! Male Fantasy? Really? Lisbeth, if she existed would kick you in your junk for that! She is a Brilliant, but Damaged person, who had Horrible things happen to her at the hands of the very people who should have been helping her! It’s a wonder that she got her head on straight at all! Everyone ho has read the Trilogy would agree on that point. She could be your Truest friend or your worst Nightmare! She long ago turned her back on “normal” society. The changes she went through ould be the same ones a Lot of us would make, if we absconded with $35 Million dollars- She knew that she had to Blend in, in order not to Stand out like a Beacon! I will, of course see the new version, but I think Noomi Rapace is the Standard.
