Absolutely horrible news this morning: Trish Keenan, lead vocalist of the excellent group Broadcast, has passed away from complications stemming from pneumonia. This is truly heartbreaking — over the course of their career, Broadcast created a fascinating, mysterious strain of pop music, fusing French pop with the subtlest hints of electronic music and jazz, all of it anchored in Keenan’s rich, sublime voice. Their 2000 high-water mark The Noise Made By People is an absolute must. She will be deeply missed. A few links and remembrances below:

So incredibly sad about this. Emusic, please respect Ms. Keenan’s memory and take ‘Step On It’ by another Broadcast off of your ‘today’s buzz’ section. You don’t want to Sarah Palin this one.

Thanks for linking to my post, Joe. Very bummed about Trish’s passing. Hard to believe it’s only been a week since the news broke.
