Sandro, was calling Daniel a name really needed? I’ve never seen you post before and your first (or if you’ve posted before near to first) post is to insult a valued member of this site? WTF is you major malfuction or do you just get off being an ass.
Maybe Anose is making a guess maybe not, as usernames can say anything for anybody, Anose might be some one else or even (as has been know to happen here with the clue posts) be a red herring.
None the less I say you have failed, Sandro, go back under your goddamned bridge!
I think it means we are getting Lost on emusic¡ (I’m joking and using the open Sarcasm Mark to prove it. . http://opensarcasm.org/ )
From the grunge speak hoax printed in the NY times. They asked an employee of Sub-Pop records if there was any grunge slang in Seattle, she made some up, and they printed it, thinking it was real.
That editor from the New York Times is a cob nobbler.
Oh man, last tuesday already nearly wiped out my rather large monthly set of downloads. Now what? There’s more new stuff (i.e. She & Him) coming out before my next refresh, too. Hmph.
Loyal reader, recently de-virginized commenter. As Craig pointed out, I was simply using the situation to employ another of the faux grungespeak words. If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended: chill out.
Because Sub Pop coined the term grunge in a Green River review, it was a Sub Pop employee who made up grunge speak, and to associate grunge with a label other than Sub Pop is incompatible.
I’m'a agree with the SP guess, as the 316 is remenisant of the black&white subpop logo. . .I miss my tv with the SubPop Sticker on it. . . Stupid rapper tore it off the tv. . . . ha to much info for you all (btw sandro, sorry bout blowing up, didn’t realize you were continuing the Slang, glad you’re posting now )
I’m’a agree with the SP guess, as the 316 is remenisant of the black&white subpop logo
I didn’t make the connection to the subpop logo, but it’s another good clue. What I hope — and what makes sense, given the pictures atop other recent cryptic coming-soon blog posts — is that the drop will be this Tuesday (03.16.10).
not available in Canada? i hope the border breaks down soon. either that or can you Americans turn up your radios? we’re stuck here with content laws forcing a certain amount of celine dion for every nirvana song played…i’m a member here because i’m a prisoner, and you still can’t sneak me some bread with my water? you do realize that here in bc we were supporters of grunge before you knew about it? it’s possible that a part of my heritage as a music snob is being robbed from me.
am i gonna have to go to law school, figure out the intricacies of political backscratching, run for office, repeal and amend laws, and die for my cause just to get equal access to music on this service?
If this is true and we’re really getting Sub Pop, that’s like the best present ever. Most of the bigger name stuff I already own, but there’s tons of lesser known records I’ve always wanted to check out, so this would be great. I can’t wait.
not sure if this throws a little bit of doubt into the Sub*Pop assumption, but I just found this: http://bit.ly/ar4XIg
A state route 316 exists in the state of Washington, but the image from the post is clearly taken from PA state route 316. Any reason this would be the case, or was the image simply used to indicate the date, and the words meant as the clue for the label?
That wouldn’t cast doubt on the Sub Pop prediction unless 316 had some other music-related connotation. Besides, the slang tip-off is too strong to be ignored, and if 316 doesn’t mean tomorrow, it’s a heck of a coincidence.
Is the new Wolf Parade good? I liked half of the debut, and thought half was terribly overrated. Just something about the herky-jerky song structure and yelpy vocals.
But “I Am A Runner” and “Shine A Light” are among the best singles of the decade.
Again with the cryptic notice of something coming?
If that means what I think it means (based on the slang), SWEET!
Craig
You will just have to swing on the flippity-flop in the meantime, Craig.
Better that than being bound-and-hagged.
Craig
Should this post remind me of the time I took a tour on a sub while drinking a pop?
My prediction (same as it’s been for some time now): New major.
But I’m gonna crack this cryptic code.
it done been cracked, lamestain.
Cap’t Obvious: I assume “316″ means 03.16.10, which is next Tuesday (new release day).
As to “wack slacks,” “cob nobblers,” and “swing(ing) on the flippity-flop,” I have no idea.
It’s been cracked? I missed it.
Daniel, Daniel, Daniel.
Read anose’s post very carefully. Or search the slang.
Craig
Just did. Got it.
SWEET.
I need booster packs.
if this what it is then ejunkie will turn over in his grave.
mrcat will swallow his swindleeee and pfffft will have 3x the literary impact.

Van Halen on Tuesday ?? Steve Austin? I’m not seeing this slang which you are refering to
GOOGLE “wack slacks,” “cob nobblers,” and “swing(ing) on the flippity-flop,” and “slang.”
but “steve austin” is a good/funny guess!
AHHHH
cob nobbler

@joe, one of m’comments is stuck in awaiting moderation
Negal – lamestain is another of “grunge speak” slang terms. He was giving another hint.
Craig
Still, thank you, Nergal. I appreciate it.
Hmmm…This is interesting. Just when I’m refreshing this week. And I thought I had a handle on what I was gonna get. Now it’s all blown up.
I’m wearing a Sub Pop t-shirt today. No joke. I’m ahead of the game here.
Filed under: music, north america coming soon
meh
Steve – I’m in the same situation. Refresh on Monday, and now I’m totally confused about what I’ll be getting. It’s a fun problem, though.
Craig

No offense taken. Good to meet you.
JAWN 3:16
Why does grungespeak mean it’s Sub Pop?
Both Nirvana and Hole put out their best records on Geffen.
you know why
Yeah, OK.
Because Sub Pop coined the term grunge in a Green River review, it was a Sub Pop employee who made up grunge speak, and to associate grunge with a label other than Sub Pop is incompatible.
Craig
Yay! Another major label that we won’t be able to see in Canada. Yay.

Last time they did this (for Warner) they used a photo with a number that was unrelated to the label and referred instead to the day of the drop.
Craig
It has to be Sub Pop! The slang reference fits it perfectly. Just look at Nergal’s post. Can’t wait to get my hands on Wolf Parade!!

sure enough, it’s sub pop
