We try to keep this blog mostly dedicated to music, but we’re going to veer off course, as we feel the situation warrants it. The recent tragic event in Haiti is the kind of situation so awful, it’s almost beyond our ability to comprehend. We at eMusic would encourage you to consider making a donation to alleviate some of the suffering via the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, or another charitable institution.

There’s another way you can help: the artist Bigga Haitian is donating the proceeds from the download of his song, “I Am A Hatian” to Haitian relief.

Whoah, for an extra bonus, track 2 on that Bigga Haitian is a White Stripes cover.

Good post, and good thought. We donated yesterday. I’ll do so again today.

    It’s an horrifying tragedy.

By an album from Yep Roc and they will donate $10 to the Red Cross. Order the Cake Shop and help out Oxfam at the same time!

Another easy way to help (as I learned from Director of the US Dept of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius on the Colbert Report): Every time you text “Haiti” to 909-99, $10 will be added to your mobile bill and donated directly to the relief fund via the Red Cross.

The mobile texting donation thing is a really good way to get people to donate — I did it yesterday here in Sweden and it is a reasonable amount of money so that people from all walks of life feel they will be able to afford to give… and also when you see more horrifying images on the news that night, you pick up your mobile and donate again…
