Dragonslayer was my personal #1. RAndom Spirit Lover was an eccentric album and hard to get into, but this one is just weird enough to be different without alienating anyone. Truly a classic.
Reviews are the new “album notes.” I see what you did there.
Looking forward to the top 10. Except for Dirty Projectors.
Your poll, your reviews!
Indie, indie, indie, rap, indie, indie, indie, indie, indie, indie.
A pattern is forming.
Yes Daniel, however that’s partially b/c most classical and Jazz is reissue, and world each person has a nook so many wouldn’t reach the amount needed for top. Country. . . well I’ve no explanation for that except well. . . country is pop and mostly big name
don’t worry Daniel Burial will be there
Ha!
BTW, I’m not complaining. Just sayin’.
My favorite genre is underground/indie rock, too.
Well I totally missed out on voting (not that it matters as none of mine will feature) but here is my late submission. Excluding compilations, all those Soundways etc ones would be up there.
Blood and Candlesmoke – Tom Russell
Midnight at the Movies – Justin Townes Earle
Tradition in Transition – Quantic and his Combo Barbaro
One to the Heart, One to the Head – Gretchen Peters
Get Out While you Can – Dan Sultan
What Have You Done My Brother? – Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens
Today, Tomorrow and Forever – Pete Molinari feat. The Jordanaires
For the Mission Baby — Malcolm Holcombe
Lucky One – Raul Malo
Oh, and Shemekia Copeland Never Going Back.
No doubt that Animal Collective will be #1.
Also in the top 10 potentially will be Passion Pit (my fave), Camera Obscura, Grizzly Bear, the Avett Brothers, the XX, St. Vincent, Andrew Bird, the Atlas, Dirty Projectors, and maybe a few other surprises…hopefully my second fave by Wild Beasts.
Nah, Daniel I knew you were just commenting on it (I probably would’ve done the same as you)
Amanda, Thank you for posting your list, I had not listened to anyof these yet, but I’ll be pleased to give each and every one a listen
“Excluding compilations, all those Soundways etc ones would be up there.”
Totally feelin’ this. Hoping we get the Panama 3 comp sometime soon . . .
my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but were the votes weighted according to where they were placed on the ballot? i tried to stack my ballot so that things i didn’t expect many other people to vote for would have a shot at appearing, but i wonder if i even should’ve bothered. nothing i voted for has appeared in the back half, so i’ll be surprised if anything appears in the front… but who knows? i could see wild beasts making it yet and (less likely, but still possible) emeralds might have a shot, both of which were on my ballot.
i didnt get the chance to vote. bummer
Hey Alex:
I am happy to report that yes, they were — more points were allotted to albums voted #1, and the point spread decreased as we went down everyone’s list.
Looks like I called the top 9 pretty much above. But disappointed Wild Beasts did not make the cut. That album blows the XX away which IMO is just kinda blah.
