And back then, they were already about ten years too late to be convincing Pixies imitators. Watching this video I couldn't help thinking how old rock and roll has become, how tired all the standard moves and mannerisms look, and it's even worse when the band is trying its level best to make them seem new. I guess if you're young and you've never heard Pixies, or Husker Du or Joy Division or whatever, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Jawbox were influential or original. A lot of people thought Nirvana were groundbreaking. Then again, maybe it's me. Maybe I've just heard and seen too much to be impressed by this sort of thing. They broke up in 1997, huh?
