Sometimes I have to stop what I’m doing and contemplate what a crazy, excellent, post-’Marquee Name’ world we’re living in right now. You see that up there? That’s fucking Jawbox. On Jimmy Fallon. Playing “Savory.” I mean, I know that back in the day you’d see Belly on Letterman and all that, and that “Savory” had its little moment in the Buzz Bin sun, but I feel like the incidences of televised indie is on the rapid ascent. And I, for one, am in favor of that.

So, Jawbox on Jimmy Fallon — two more videos after the jump, and the For Your Own Special Sweetheart reissue showing up on eMusic before the week is out.

They broke up in 1997, huh? And back then, they were already about ten years too late to be convincing Pixies imitators.

Watching this video I couldn’t help thinking how old rock and roll has become, how tired all the standard moves and mannerisms look, and it’s even worse when the band is trying its level best to make them seem new. I guess if you’re young and you’ve never heard Pixies, or Husker Du or Joy Division or whatever, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Jawbox were influential or original. A lot of people thought Nirvana were groundbreaking.

Then again, maybe it’s me. Maybe I’ve just heard and seen too much to be impressed by this sort of thing.

I dunno about that, Andy. Joy Division is one of my favorite bands, and I had Pixies and Husker Du records long before I ever heard For Your Own Special Sweetheart and I still thought that record was badass.

Speaking of Husker Du and this statement — “I feel like the incidences of televised indie is on the rapid ascent” — there’s this:

That’s awesome Daniel. I remember that show, my mom went to it a couple of times, and the thought of her sitting there watching Bob Mould with a flying V guitar is just too funny.

Really, kustov, WTF does that have to do with anything? NBC is nothing to do with Sony and really, . . . fuck I can’t even do it, fine kid have it your way. *Stomps off cursing*
