I’m a little disappointed that there’s no room for comments/blurbs on the ballot this year. It was always fun hearing other users weigh in and seeing whose blurbs were chosen to represent each album.

i cannot vote as i am not in the regions available. where does australia fit in?

  4. 4 Josh

I’m not sure if this says more about me or the year in music, but I had a tough time coming up with 10 albums — mainly because I don’t go for the Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear stuff that will probably top a lot of lists.

Also, is it a verifiable fact that 2004 was the best music-year in a long time?

Hey Susan – please don’t let that stop you from voting! You access the US-version of the site, so just choose that option!

I hear you, Josh. I never really “got” either band you mentioned either, no matter how hard I try. But to quote Larry David: “Having said that…” I was surprised at how quickly my own personal lists came together.

Next week, as we unveil the eMusic list, we’re going to be posting the personal lists of various eMusic staffers on 17 Dots. We would *LOVE* it if you guys posted your personal lists in that space, too!

My list is chock-full of stuff and it doesnt’ cuont non-eMu stuff. I’m also not into Grizzly Bear or Animal Collective, but I have high hopes for Sunset Rubdown’s “Dragonslayer”, which finally made good on that promise of potential in spades.

I’m just hoping Bitte Orca doesn’t do too well.

  7. 7 Nergal

I had to let some go; some because I hadn’t gotten the whole album yet, others because it just didn’t seem right for them (esp Lara St. John Four Seasons which is awesome). And I actually had some favorites this year which didn’t make it to eMusic and I had to use other services to get them (or they were free/available on the artists’ site)
    However
    1 Cage Depart from me
2 Magen Melancholy The Short Lived Life of (also my under appreciated for the year, yea Magen go)
3 Girls Album (I almost didn’t put this on my list because it’s going to get so many votes but fuck it’s too awesome to miss)
4 Mayer Hawthorne A strange Arrangement
5 Riceboys Sleeps (Jonsi and Alex) Riceboy Sleeps
6 The Prodigy Invaders Must Die
7 Thao & GDSD Know Better Learn Faster
8 The Twilight Sad Forget the Night Ahead
    9 Rodrigo y Gabriela 11:11
    10 Capybara Try Brother

    My most overrated was easy
Antony and the Johnsons and their Grandma sings into a Gramophone on helium/nitrous

I can’t vote for some reason! I kept trying to put it through and it wouldn’t go. Any advice?

  9. 9 joe

Really? That’s weird – let me look into it.

  10. 10 Daniel, Esq.

    “9 Rodrigo y Gabriela 11:11″

Seconded! (It might be even higher on my list).

So, what do we do when an album is no longer available on eMusic? For instance White Denim’s “Fits” – not on the site any more. Can I still vote for them in your poll?

  12. 12 joe

You can vote for it, but albums we dont have anymore get discarded because we can’t display them on the site.

What you should do is post your full personal list as a comment on one of our staff list posts that we’re rolling out this week!

  13. 13 Daniel, Esq.

Whew! Voted with just over an hour before the polls closed.
