Chandos 30th anniversary!

The renowned classical boutique label Chandos is celebrating their 30th anniversary! To celebrate this milestone, we have had John Schaefer, he of WNYC’s legendary New Sounds (now Soundcheck) broadcast and one of America’s most indefatigable and infectiously enthusiastic advocates for classical music, old and new, curate a massive hub for us that offers a broad and catholic-minded sampling of the label’s many, many essential releases.
But WAIT THERE’S MORE!
They have also decided to put their ENTIRE CATALOGUE on sale. Like, every single album from Chandos, capped at 9 credits. That’s lots and lots and LOTS of classical music, folks, for a great price, and if you have been hovering around the classical section for awhile, anxiously holding onto your credits while eyeing some albums, this is your time: go in and go to town. The sale ends Oct. [NOTE: As with the Avett Bros. sale, this is currently only available in the US, as the US is the only territory to opt into album pricing. Other territories, have patience: this sort of thing should swing your way in the new year, when we plan to introduce album pricing everywhere].
Personal faves? Not like you asked but hey: I am partial to their recording of Benjamin Britten’s mighty War Requiem; this roiling, bleakly gorgeous disc pairing Sofia Guibaidulina and Henryk Gorecki; underappreciated British composer Michael Tippet’s massive oratorio Child of Our Time; this recording of Schoenberg’s unearthly, hackle-raising Pierrot Lunaire; and so much more.
Here’s the Chandos hub to get you started. Happy downloading!

Yeaaaaaaah baby!
Good hubs and/or reviews are absolutely crucial to navigating through the maze of classical releases (different versions of the same works; each label’s interpretation of a given work; confusing titles making it hard to separate the performing artist, the composer and the title; the difficulties in distinguishing between types of classical pieces; and so forth).
This hub is v. good, BTW. And if anyone has a reliable online destination point for good classical reviews, I’d be interested in hearing about it.
Anyway, great sale. I’ll steer clear of most of the vocal performances, but the instrumental classical pieces intrigue me.
I grabbed me the Borodin Trio playing Dvorak’s piano trios. Good stuff. I’ll peruse the hub later.
Looking forward to album pricing & sales coming to the UK in the new year (hope you can make it happen, so the site stops looking so US biased to non-US customers). Any thing good happening for the UK in the meantime?
