wow, thanks alex p. sincerely :) I do try to make a mix more than just a bunch of tracks.

hate to be a 404 following geek, but the link you posted is wrong. its ovah here:

http://crucial-systems.com/mixes/mahout

I think ghostification is on e-music because we went through TuneCore. Scuba/hotflush I think has a distro agreement so its his distro that handles that.

thanks for the zomby mix. i LOVE 'where were u in 92,' so this is a nice treat. jrn is right, though, hyperdub has been on a roll as of late - kode9, ld, cooly g, and king midas sound all have excellent singles up. i've also been listening to kode9 spaceape's 'memories of the future' lately, which i rate highly among dubstep albums.

speaking of dubstep, what are the chances that emusic will pick up the hotflush recordings label? scuba, mount kimbie, and untold have had excellent singles/eps semi-recently and the label would make a great addition to the emusic catalogue.

one record i've been obsessing over is emeralds' 'what happened' (http://www.emusic.com/album/Emeralds-What-Happened-MP3-Download/11385414.html). it's an excellent improv record that lands somewhere between noise and ambient. check it out if you are into the schulze & tangerine dream end of the cosmic spectrum. the last song on the record just kills me. so beautiful.

in half-emusic news, i've also been playing timeblind's mahout mix a ton (http://crucial-systems.com/music/mixes/mahout). usually i find free mixes available online are fun for a little while, but i don't listen to them more than once or twice. the mahout mix, on the other hand, i've listened to almost every day since i got it about a month ago. if anyone is into that mix, you should definitely check out timeblind's ghostification ep (http://www.emusic.com/album/Timeblind-Ghostification-MP3-Download/11369789.html) on dj /rupture's soot records.

Is there a chance that US customers of eMusic will be able to get the new Future of the Left album in the near future? I've been waiting for today's release... obsessively.

Crossword puzzles can easily become an obsession, too. Trust me. Check out some neat puzzles here: http://www.brendanemmettquigley.com/ This guy has totally modern phrases and pop culture references in his grids, and frequently references popular indie bands.

I hear lots of people are obsessed with the new Grizzly Bear album. It must be pretty good - but, of course, I wouldn't know.

Ukrainian black metal? Thanks jrn!

For a dude with a guitar and a soft voice that Cass McCombs track is surprisingly unique and fresh. I'm in love.

i've been pretty much obsessed by everything Hyperdub has put out this year, and today y'all FINALLY got the Cooly G single. and, predictably, it kills. not that i'd be honest if it didn't, such is my undying devotion.

http://www.emusic.com/album/Cooly-G-Narst-Love-Dub-MP3-Download/11474858.html

another today-arrival i'm stoked about is the new record from Ukranian black metal-ers DRUDKH. last i heard from them, and i'm sure stuff happened in between, they released an all-acoustic album of Ukranian folk tunes with no black metal on it. it was great. their new one, which i haven't heard fully yet, sounds like a perfect realization of old-world melodicism, grim suicidal Burzumic blackness and, unlike the last go-round, blastbeats up the ass.

so, uh, yeah. dubstep-hybrid bass music and black metal. there's my obsessions for ya.
