the return of the clean!

There are few things I love more than Kiwipop, especially Kiwipop of a certain vintage (I’m already scheming ways I can get to New Zealand for the one-off Chills reunion). Two years ago the Flying Nun Box Set was a constant on my iPod, and I generally scour record stores for the odd album by Look Blue Go Purple or the Pin Group.
So you can imagine my ecstasy when, into my inbox this morning, came the brand new single by the Clean. Awesomely titled “In a Dreamlife, You Need a Rubber Soul,” the song is vintage Clean from the get-go. The album is out September 8 on Merge. You can hear the new song here. Get super psyched!
Even before I heard it, I thought, “Rubber Soul in the title is a very, very good thing.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if that Flying Nun back catalogue was available on eMusic?
I agree. I’ve asked about Flying Nun for years. I’d download ten times as many Flying Nun tracks as all the major labels combined.
Man, I would love to get Flying Nun. As best I understand it — which is pretty limited! — it gets tangled up in weird international rights issues. Like, (and this is just what I *think*), Flying Nun has the Clean in NZ, but Merge has them in US. I think. I may be wrong. I just know that the legality around the Flying Nun stuff is very weird.
