They're more than just dark; the very specific, almost formalist way he uses language makes them true classics of the form. Here is hoping the Phos recording will move you to try some of the man himself. For starters, Willie and the Wheel (http://www.emusic.com/album/Willie-Nelson-Willie-And-The-Wheel-MP3-Download/11366002.html) is much more cheerful than the tune selection on "To Willie," but worth a listen.
