checking in from sxsw
Hey everybody! This is my third day here in Austin, and I wanted to give you some idea of what’s been going on. First off, I have been careful about how to write about being here: I’m wary of writing things that consist of little more than bragging (“I’m here and yr not!”), while also trying to be sure that the things we do share from our experiences here have some value for you (i.e. check out this band, not that band, etc). And so the daily journal of exploits or lack thereof is probably not something we’ll be doing a lot of. If anyone seriously objects to that please say so.
All of that said, for anyone who is curious about what’s happening on a real-time level, you should check out (vomit, I know) our Twitter feed. Yesterday I made what I’m sure is an obvious discovery: that I can take pictures using my fancy iPhone and post them instantly via Twitter with a comment on what I’m seeing. So yesterday I tried to do that with all of the shows I saw (Here We Go Magic (no pic), Deastro, Let’s Wrestle, Sprengjuhollin, others), and I’ll be doing the same today. Could be fun, could be self-indulgent.
In terms of impressive things so far, it begins and ends with Sprengjuhollin, who gave an unbelievably lively and intense performance to a barely-existent audience of about thirty people in a space the size of a basketball court. But be sure that they won over every single person. (And those of you in NYC, they will be playing at Santos Party House on Monday. We will definitely be there.)
Today promises to be a memorable one. Get to see French Miami, Thao for the first time, Glasser, Pains… And then the eMusic showcase: Girls, Rural Alberta, Grizzly Bear. Hell yes. And then Crystal Stilts, Obits, Gun Outfit, Baptist Generals (if I’m lucky) and on and on. Big hopes for today. Don’t let me down!

That is a kick-ass pic of Alex, btw.
1) Yancey I think you’re right, if we want the I’m here you’re not stuff the twitter is fine (I just added twitter to my IM program WOOT)
2) I’m sooooooooooooo curious who the bad show was on Tuesday and whether it was a fluke, if they are a band just not fit for live performances, or if it’s a stay away from band. I even search the Tuesday schedule to see if I could parse who it was based on Tweet time, to no avail. I am glad for their sake we weren’t told who it was and that day two went better.
3) Limewire. . . really. . .lime wire is a sponsor and eMusic isn’t ? ? ?
4) Who’s doing tomorrow’s EVR? and will we hear from you guys during it?
5) Wish I was there too
love to live vicariously through you though.
Wish i was there too, got to hear the NPR stream of the Decemberists last night at least, great new music. Keep up the fun and detailing it to us.
Aaaarrgh!!!! I should be there.
I hope you said hi to Nils, Amy, and Paul for me. Sometimes, I want your job.
Yeah. Sometimes.
Troy, you were a topic of conversation in their interviews! They brought you up. Respect was paid!
