best new music february
18Feb09
Each month we roll out a new Best New Music hub collecting notable recent additions to the site, and the new one just went up. Anyone reading 17 Dots is an old pro at all of this now — we learn from you as much as you from us — but if you slept through a new arrivals post or two, this is a good place to get filled in. And what about you? What makes your best new music?

Although it was advanced to Emu back in December, Bruce Peninsula’s A Mountain is a Mouth was “officially” released on 2/3 and is my current front-runner for best of 2009 so far.
Also, Fake Problems’ It’s Good to Be Alive deserves a little push…RIYL Against Me, Titus Andronicus, Gaslight Anthem.
Shakti by David S. Ware is awesome.
just discovered Staff Benda Bilili. wish emusic had it…can’t wait till you do!
Staff Benda Bilili. can’t wait till its on emusic…
Yancey,
wound’t it be a nice feature to have, if you would all (or at least the recent) past “Best New Music” hubs available to subscribers? Or do u have this feature hidden somewhere deep within already?
Btw: U guys do a great job here, thanks.
Cheers.
I have a sneaky suspicion it’s the not least bit fashionable to do so, but I really like the new Faunts. A lot.
I can’t find any of the features on the site any more…..dozens..etc.
Hey porieux:
We’re working on that — it’s as frustrating for us as it is for you, believe me. A few things to keep in mind:
- All interviews and features are now automatically associated with the artist they’re about. So, for example, if you want to re-read our interview with M. Ward, just go to any M. Ward album page and it should be in the “Discover” box.
For ease of use, tho, just bookmark these links:

Hubs, unfortunately, are not compiled anywhere…yet.
Thanks Joe. I’m not so much frustrated as puzzled, especially since I figure people put a lot of work into putting that stuff together. Plus obviously it would be very helpful for new users…and all users really. Glad to know it’s on the radar.
I really love the Filastine record on Soot. Anyone who heard DJ /rupture’s ‘Uproot’ mix will probably recognize the song “Hungry Ghost.” Here’s the link – http://www.emusic.com/album/Filastine-Dirty-Bomb-MP3-Download/11344359.html
Also, it isn’t an album, but the Kode vs. LD “Bad/2Bad” release on Hyperdub is well worth 2 downloads! Here’s the link – http://www.emusic.com/album/Kode-9-Bad-2-Bad-MP3-Download/11325347.html
