Lord knows its legality, but the version of the Yardbirds’ classic classic classic Roger the Engineer that arrived today is indeed legit. The album is post-Clapton, but right in the heights of Jeff Beck’s prowess. Listen to it as a guitar god landmark or just as a really, really great ’60s rock & roll album. In any event, just listen!

PS: There are lots of bonus tracks here and I can’t really speak to their quality. The CD version I have of this had a handful of these, and I never found any of them particularly awesome. But I’m sure someone is gonna roll through and rightfully school me!

This is an intriguing album, certainly influential in its way, but to be frank, it hasn’t aged as well as some of the truly classic mid to late 60s albums, such as Dylan’s Highway 61, the Stones’ Beggars Banquet, Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow, The Zombies’ Odessey and Oracle, or even Floyd’s Piper At the Gates of Dawn, to name just a few of those that still sound fresh today. This one feels more like an artifact. The songwriting is erratic at best. Still, it’s worth the downloads for Beck’s guitar work and its overall historical value. The bonus tracks include the classic Happenings Ten Years Time Ago and Psycho Daisies, which both rock. The Relf solo tracks aren’t bad, I’d say on a par with the rest of the album.

If it’s for real, the Yardbirds’ London Time appeared today.

I’ve never paid much attention to them, so I don’t know if this is the genuine article.

Genuine in what sense? It is the Yardbirds, and it’s been previously released on CD, but that doesn’t mean you should buy it. A quick listen to the samples should be enough to tell you why.

Genuine in the sense of whether it’s really the Yardbirds (or a knockoff act or re-recordings of the originals). I checked AMG; it’s apparently a Yardbirds compilation.

Genuine to me would mean is it a real ‘album’ and is it actually release worthy material that the artist would have sanctioned, or is it some sort of dubious ripoff/cash-i.e ‘bootleg’.

Wow: obvioiusly I must be the only 1970s age person to have listened to this album in the 60s as what now I consider excellent “baby sitter music” based on the chick who originally played this for us back in the 60s. Make sense I hope. Any how I think the above reviews have beem urinated from un-educated people who based there music experience on what sounds like an album fit and not what is truely excellent music. This album reflects a direction unique to sound and space with blues and introspection of progress and not at all the pleasant valley sunday or expected commercial happy ending of other albums which is consistently the rule of the Yardbirds. My favorite song “What Do You Want” is an example of this unique sound. This is intense, unplayable by probalby most bands of today and one of many tracts that justify this album as being great. I have passed this CD on to neighbors who are in bands and they are still trying to get it right. Nuff Said
