Yesterday, Alex mentioned that Jed from My Teenage Stride had recorded a CD of songs “in the style of” certain popular artists. Conveniently, Jed had to swing by the eMusic offices today, so we asked (begged, cajoled, pleaded with) him to bring a copy of this CD along. Fortunately, he humored us. We have to figure out the right avenue for the album’s full glory, but it would be criminally unfair of us to deny you the joy of some of these spot-on pastiches.

What strikes me more than anything else is how, under the “costumes,” these are still actually great songs. So, happy Friday. And thank Jed yourself by downloading some My Teenage Stride today!

“Flashlight!,” Jazz Pond [Def Leppard]
“Reggae ’66,” Kingston Troubadors [Reggae]
“Drenched in Blood and Flesh in Tatters,” Wait a Minute Hitler [Punk/Ramones]
“Hop, Skip, Hang,” Mingus Coleman [Jazz]
“Fooled! For the Second Time,” Hung Like Mice [ELO]
“1975,” Blind & Cruising [Belle & Sebastian]
“Cougar’s Town,” Sinking Joe Louis [Johnny Cash]
“Scrutiny of the Tailgunner,” The Empty Ess [David Bowie]
“Andy Actor,” The Beatles II [The Beatles]
“Bad Horn Blue,” Charles Jackson & the 438 Street YMCA Group [Charles Wright & the 103rd St Rhythm Band]

Haha – some of them are style pastiches more than any one particular artist.

god, i love this! i remember hearing this when jed was “happy” and thinking “omg, he can do EVERYTHING.”

duracell really needs to license that “Flashlight” song, for reals… so good!

The ELO, man… so spot on. LOVE THESE!

The ELO, Bowie, and Belle and S songs are fantastic. Why don’t they just make them MTS songs? It wouldn’t be hard to tone them down. MTS aren’t that distant from any of them.

    Hello, this is Duracell.

Would would very much like to license the Flashlight song.

Please license it to us so that we might sell more cells.

Can’t say I found the ELO one all that convincing, but the Bowie was spot on. The Ramones one sounds a bit more like the Buzzcocks, especially on the vocals.
