Just wanted to do a quick post shouting out some new editorial I found especially interesting — hope you’ll feel the same.

1. I truly enjoyed Elisabeth Vincentelli’s fantastic User’s Guide to the catalog of black metal band Bathory. Even those scared off — both literally and figuratively — by Bathory’s awesome evil will find much here to enjoy. Among the bon mots: “When, in 1983, Tomas Forsberg decided to become Quorthon and start a band named after 17th-century Hungarian countess-slash-mass murderer Erzsébet Báthory, metal was a boiling cauldron of subterranean creativity.” And that’s just for starters.

2. Amanda Petrusich tracked down Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) for this insightful Q&A, which finds the two discussing everything from Northern Exposure to the merits of vocoder.

3. Matt Fritch offers a profile of breaking New Zealand band Cut Off Your Hands.

Enjoy!
