ask the artist: ac newman
Remember a while ago when we asked you to send in questions for Dan Bejar and he answered them? Then, remember before that, when we asked you to do the same thing for Ted Leo? Well, we’re at it again — and this time we’re hitting up indie pop’s own personal Brill Building, A.C. Newman. Ask A.C. anything: about his approach to songwriting, his involvement in the New Pornographers, or ask him about specific songs on his latest opus, Get Guilty (for you folks in Canada, it’s right here). Send all your questions to AskTheArtist@emusic.com by February 3rd, and we’ll run the answers on the homepage the week of February 24th. It’s that easy!
Got suggestions for artists you’d like to see featured this way in the future? Let us know in the comments section!

Awesome! Can’t wait to listen to some Get Guilty and formulate some questions.
I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I’d love to hear from Murder by Death frontman Adam Turla.
You know how an iPod will always play the same damn song if you just turn it on and hit play (basically whatever comes first in alphabetical order by artist among all your songs)?
Well for well over a year that song on my iPod was “Secretarial” off A.C. Newman’s The Slow Wonder. It’s a fine song; I had downloaded it from a music blog, I think. But I had grown incredibly sick of it. I was about to eliminate from my iPod simply so that I wouldn’t here its opening notes over and over and over again whenever I thought I was just unsleeping my iPod but was actually turning it on.
Then I came up with another solution: get the entire album off of emusic! Now whenever I hit play from the main menu on my iPod I hear “Miracle Drug.” A better song (IMO) and I’m not yet sick of it. But this solution to my “Secretarial” problem really made sense ’cause this is a terrific album.
I look forward to reading A.C.’s answers to our questions!
Ah yet another reason not to get a cryPod
I usually have mine set to shuffle no matter what I play from, but when playing straight through I do get “Miracle Drug” to pop up quite a bit.
Which is fine, since it rocks.
This is great. The New Pornographers are one of my favorite acts of the decade.
