name our baby
So. February marks a couple of important milestones for us, and we’re celebrating in a very cool way. First, it marks the two-year anniversary of 17 Dots, a fact that is astounding to me. Second, it marks the one-year anniversary of eMusic Selects. In commemoration, for the past two months we have been working on the first eMusic Selects compilation: one track each from about 15 completely new artists who we love and think will do amazing things in 2009. I am the last person you would trust on such a thing, but it’s very good. Very very good. I look at these artists who have agreed to work with us and think, “We’re lucky they don’t realize how massively huge they will be in about two minutes.” Which probably shows how warped my view of the world is as much as anything else.
ANYWAY. We don’t know what to call this thing. The current front-runner is eMusic Selects a Compilation, which is very descriptive, if nothing else. Or eMusic Selects: The Comp. Or, if you wanted to get into ’60s futurism (this is about what’s next, to some degree), Someday Tomorrow Will Be Today, which I like but know is a bit silly. All of which is to say, nothing has felt perfect so far, but maybe you will have a better idea than us? Please share! And don’t be afraid of it sounding dumb. Most of ours have been terrible — yesterday Joe and I got in a vortex of bad puns involving “DIY” and barely escaped with our lives!

How about:
eMusic Select Cuts
minimalist, I know, but with a tasty butcher shop echo about it…

On another topic, thanks much for making Daniel Amos your free download of the day. Please do the same with Bruce Cockburn. People need to know how much you guys have of this great music.
Jim

How’s about Fast Forward, Selector! An eMusic Selects Compilation
Please note that joke is entirely lifted from Flight of the Conchords
rubish grate name for this site, usless is another
How about this… eMusic Select’s Selected Selections?
Shame there isn’t 17 tracks the you could have:
17 Selects: an eMusic selects compilation
Definately not appropriate but i have always loved the DIY reference in the mclusky song, You Should Be Ashamed, Seamus:
“what’s the point of do it yourself when it looks so shit”
yeah! this track just came to mind by Janis Iain, At Seventeen:
I learned the truth at Seventeen
Selected and Collected
Emusic Selects: Ones We Love
Why we have Hope for the Future…
Selects: One (1)
How about:
The Barack Obama version: The President Selects
The Alice Cooper version: I wanna be Selected
The Troll-baiting version: So Not a Swindleeeeee: the best of eMusic Selects
The Hipster-baiting version: Honk if you’re Hipster: eMusic Selects Greatest Hits
(BTW Yancey – can’t wait to see what you guys come up with in 09. Fave Select so far: The RAA: completely awesome)
@WJPurdy – loving your suggestion.
@Phoney – totally agree with your RAA evaluation, I only grabbed it this month and am really enjoying it. btw, should it be the Ramones version for I wanna be Selected? Or am I a troll now?
What about ‘The Theory of Emusic Selection’ or the ‘The Means of Emusic Selection’ or some varition on the darwin theme?
Alternatively, how about ‘I Heard It Before You: A Selection of Future Music Heroes’
@Mr B – agree that WJPurdy totally nailed it with his suggestion. You got me on the Ramones reference! Completely forgot about that one.
Another suggestion or two:
Too Cool To Clap: eMusic Selects Vol 1
The eMusic machine turns you on (OK…completely stole that one)
Selects and Drugs and Rock and Roll
How about an Amishi quote like;
They’re Sad, They’re Cold, Get Over It.
or my all time favorite;
“I already heard it this morning.”
“Hipper Than Thou”
“Williamsburg is Shit”
“Making Me Feel Superior Than That Jackass Indie Record Store Clerk”
I don’t think emusic would be happy with you using their name in the title you don’t want to make people think there is an association. I think it should be unique.
I came up with “UNEED2DIGIT.COM”.
Selects Start
@gualm, you do realize that 17dots is the editorial staff of eMusic and this conversation is about trying to name the eMusic Selects Compalation. So really THERE IS AN ASSOCIATION :buh:
@mike and other people who are really just being trollish assholes PISS OFF
@people who have made actual suggestions: keep it up I’m enjoying these (Though I think from a sales stand point combined with fun my favs are “the The eMusic Elects of eMusic Selects”,”eMusic Reflects on eMusic Selects”, “Selected eMusic Selects”, “eMusic Select Selects” , “Selected and Collected” and “eMusic Select Cuts” (but only if there is meat on the cover. . . mmmmmmm meat)
Lots of good titles already, but here’s the subtitle: “Brought to you by Taylor Swift.”
Another vote for WJPurdy’s suggestion:
“Selected and collected”
A Tribute To Gary.Ramsey?
