The Users’ Poll countdown continues!

First, I just wanted to say that rifling through the comments so many users included with their polls was awesome and enlightening. Picking comments like this one (about Spiritualized):

“I saw them live at ACL and rocked out literally so hard I threw up my hands during their last song and said ‘Sorry I can’t take it anymore.’ The set ended with me hugging a guy I didn’t even know who had blue flames coming out of his head (note: no drugs were involved)”

…out of an Excel spreadsheet was definitely one of the best ways I could think of to spend my day. Reading these uncommonly interesting/funny/insightful comments made me feel good all over again about the community we have here and made me realize AGAIN how unique it us…for edifying comparison, go to any music blog, click to read the “Comments” section, and then, while reading, try not to feel your faith in humanity draining away. Anyway. Go us. The full Users’ Poll list (as of now) is up here, by the way.

So here are the latest batch of albums:

41. Marching Band – Spark Large
40. Ladytron – Velocifero

Couple of thoughts/reactions:

YEA DEASTRO! So great to see this on here; we’re all super-proud of him and that record really is something special. Also, the RAA, yay! In general, a really eclectic bunch of records this time around, with some hip-hop poking its head through (maybe more rappers just need to rhyme about eating Fruity Pebbles?); the new Nine Inch Nails, which I know makes Joe happy; that Fucked-Up record, which I have heard only through the cubicle wall, but which is steadily inching up my list of Things To Do; the Army Navy, which is just straight mid-’90s power pop revivalist stuff, a great pop-rock record; and PETE AND THE PIRATES!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the next batch: what will we see? Without giving anything away, I’ll just say that things stay interesting right up to the end.

That “stiletto boot swagger” quote for #62 (The Kills) belongs to flamgirlant.

  2. 2 Tim

The “The light bursts off the hard drive as these songs spin” for Marching Band (#41) is me. Love that thing – number 2 on my overall list.

  3. 3 flamgirlant

oh yay! I got quoted! doesn’t take much to make this girl happy.

  4. 4 WJPurdy

…and I was responsible (regrettably, I now realize) for the Deastro “keeper” pun.

  5. 5 Daniel, Esq.

” Marnie Stern – I Should Really Have Let My Label Reps Talk Me Into A Different Title…..”

    lol

Yeah, I’m apparently way out of step with eMusic at large. I haven’t had a single match yet (though I’d have voted for Horse Feathers if I’d listened to it earlier than just last week).

Although I can’t remember if I voted for Re-Arranger, since Barsuk wasn’t over here with that album fast enough for my liking and I acquired it via iTunes.

  7. 7 ptolemyclark

If it’s any comfort, Jonathan, I haven’t had any matches either.

  8. 8 captwhiffle

None of mine here, either. But I’ll have to say that between the eMusic staff and the eMusic subscribers, these are some of the best best-of lists we’re going to see anywhere.

  9. 9 porieux

Yeah none of my selections yet either but I still agree it’s a healthy list. I wish more people would listen to jazz though ;)

  10. 10 Nergal

I find most (non-marsalis) jazz that comes out in the modern era is shite. . . sorry I just do. Give me Miles, or Coltrane, or Mingus or Brubeck or or or

  11. 11 matt-robot

I have two selections from my list listed so far (Port O’Brien and Ratatat) and they ran my comments for both albums! Heh. I’m liking the list so far–lots of cool stuff I missed and will be checking out.

  12. 12 porieux

LOL @ non-marsalis…i think you have that one backwards!

  13. 13 Zero

I’d like to claim my Cloud Cult quote.

“Another genuinely uplifting record from a man who has seen the worst that life has to offer.”

Thanks very much, you peeps are the coolest!

Hooray for Pete & the Pirates! Looks like they have a new single out this month:

Bradford Cox has never wanted a punch in the face more than he has in this photo.
