what’s next

A couple of reminders:
1) You have until tonight to vote for your favorite 2008 album. And underrated and overrated records, too. (And no, we can’t imagine anything other than Vampire Weekend winning that last category.)
2) Tomorrow we will begin unveiling our favorite albums of 2008 in the US and Canada. You European folks will have to wait until Friday for your list to begin (fewer records made the cut). It’s gonna be fun!
3) Did everyone have a nice holiday? We got fat.

MAN…..DEERHUNTER HAS TO BE UP THER…..WHAT A GREAT GREAT CD……..AND LUCKY FROM NADA SURF
so what sort of process do you guys go through to come up with your list? I have an image of a gigantic piece of green felt tacked up to the wall with albums written on little multi-colored pieces of felt in sharpie, glitter and nail polish. and then you all kinda jostle around, switching the line up, standing on soapboxes to make arguments for your #32 or whatever. and finally, when it’s nearly finished, there’s a heated game of beer pong to decide the final ranking of the top 10.
am I close?
You aren’t far off! The way it went was: I asked everyone (Anna, Alex, Joe, Maris, Jayson) to come up with their top 20 — or however many records they deeply cared about — and then we sat down together in a room for about two hours with a big whiteboard and just started hashing it out. First we decided what would be in the top ten, top twenty, etc. and from there just rearranged stuff until it felt right. No science whatsoever!
what? no one asked Amishi? are we gonna at least get some comments out of her on the list? it’s been a minute since we heard from her…
Amishi moved back to India at the beginning of November! She’s still part-time with us — designing remotely — but yeah, Amishi is gone. Very sad. There was no farewell because she just got increasingly annoyed at Ask Amishi. Or maybe. It’s so hard to tell with that girl!
I have tried several times to vote and it keeps telling me I haven’t chosen a country when I have. Anyone else having this problem? And what can I do about it?
Someone’s been reading my ballot! I think most everyone likes the VW album, but at the same time it’s so overhyped that it’s bound to be disappointing. I know I expected something like what I got later in Ra Ra Riot’s The Rhumb Line instead.
I really look forward to seeing what albums i missed and seeing how what I liked did.
I do hope Murder by Death’s “Red of Tooth and Claw” does well; it really stood out this year for me.
i think VW is going to have some SERIOUS competition from Deerhunter in the most overrated cagetory. as if one boring Breeders album wasn’t enough for the year!
I dunno, Deerhunter’s gotten a lot of love lately. I still vote for a tie between Vampire Weekend and that damn Of Montreal.
Hahaha! Good one!
*sigh* I was hoping for an exclusive Ask Amishi top 10 of 2008 list.
I don’t know if Skeletal Lamping can really be overrated since ridiculous sycophants of Barnes’ madness (like myself) are bound to like it and everyone else knows better.
BINGO! Of Montreal gets my vote for Most Overrated. Or, maybe “Most Desperate To Create a Buzz by Doing Random Shit on Stage to Cover Up for Lack of Substance”.
I think Little Wayne album is hot.
