all’s quiet

17Nov08

We’ve been very quiet today, mainly because we are doing some heavy prep for a very big day tomorrow, across all sites. A certain jazz motherlode — a motherlode so big I don’t even think we will be able to get it all up in one day! — as well as new records from Ladyhawke, Little Boots and Anathallo. You guys are gonna be happy. It’s gonna be a good day.

Across all sites? I’d been thinking the motherlode might be limited to the US. Will it be available in the UK??

    That it will.

Should we refrain from solidifying our Top of 2008 lists until after tomorrow then? :)

nah. not a lot of new releases. you should save some space for the new paul mccartney/fireman thing next week though. it’s shockingly great.

I think we’ve basically hit the end of the 2008 new release schedule. However, first quarter of 2009 has new discs from, among others, Carl Newman (of TNP, to be released on Matador); The Thermals (on Kill Rock Stars); Animal Collective (Domino); Antony and the Johnsons (Secretly Canadian); Franz Ferdinand (not on eMusic, tho).

Very much looking forward to tomorrow. Still holding out hope that we’ll get a bunch of the delayed and anticipated stuff before the end of the year (e.g., Calexico, the Soundway discs). Amazing year for eMusic, BTW.

I’m really wrapping up my 2008 releases, though I’ve already submitted my Top Ten because I’m pretty confident in my selections. Glad to hear the year is winding down, though. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by so much music, and I’m looking forward to closing out my 2008 releases with my last full month of 2008 music. This is my first full year with music (I’m around one full year now overall) and I have to say the experience has completely obliterated any expectations I may have had – I didn’t know music until I actually got into eMusic, and now I consider myself along for the ride for as long as I can see myself listening to music and great artists continue to make records on labels like Matador, Arts and Crafts, and Jagjaguwar. Way excited for new Carl Newman. Also for a bit of a break in the meantime.

You folks at eMusic rock so hard; I cannot fully express how much this site and its offerings have meant to me as I continue to explore the landscape of music.

Jonathan that post is so awesome I wonder if you are really my mom under an assumed name. Thanks bro!

Yancey, I was already excited about the jazz drop but now you have sent me into a frenzy, LOL!

You’re in the UK, right porieux? Not only do you have tomorrow’s haul (and yes, it is Black Saint/Soul Note), but you have the ECM New Series stuff already, too, including the best-ever performance of Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians at only ONE TRACK. Insanity! These are good days to be an eMu’r.

A new Paul McCartney release? Well, I’ll wait until then to submit my best of 2008 although I probably won’t be done listening and deciding. I’d be curious about exploring the jazz motherlode.

I’m in California Über Alles. Drooling over the ECM stuff too but I think the Black Saint stuff should keep me happy for a while :)

Will the new Belle & Sebastian BBC sessions come to emusic this week? I’m new to emusic, so I wasn’t sure how long it takes to make it to the site. Since it’s a Matador release, I figured it would be here eventually…

  13. 13 yancey

Yeah, the B&S will be here eventually, but probably not until January. Matador tends to hold back their name releases from us for about 90 days or so. On the other hand, I do believe the AC Newman will arrive on street date.

What happened to the Nerves comp that was up a short while ago? (The Peter Case group, not the Thrill Jockey usurpers). I grabbed 18 or so tracks before running out, hoping to grab the rest when my downloads refreshed. Alas, it disappeared without a trace…

Is Ladyhawke, the New-zealand one woman band (aka Pip Brown)? If it’s the case, her debut album is really recommended for any electro-pop fans.

Are we getting the new Amadou & Mariam disc?

  17. 17 yancey

I haven’t heard. Joe guesses no, though.
