17dots is back! & evr show #8
Did you miss us?
Yes, 17 Dots has been down again for the last few days but we’re back and, as Gene once put it, fighting fit.
First things first: last Thursday was the eighth (!) installment of our East Village Radio Show and, to complement our Afrobeat hub we decided to focus exclusively on African music. I had a good time assembling some of my favorite Afropop songs for the show — hope you enjoy listening! You can download the show here. Playlist is as follows!
Esau Mwamwaya & Radioclit, “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”
Oscar Sulley & the Uhuru Dance Band, “Olufeme”
Orlando Julis & His Afro-Sounders, “Psychedelic Afro-Shop”
Geraldo Pino & the Heartbeats, “Let Them Talk”
Matata, “Good Samaritan”
Ify Jerry Crusade, “Everybody Likes Something Good”
Seun Kuti & Fela’s Egypt 80, “Don’t Give That Shit to Me”
Orchestre Veve, “Baluti”
Picoby Band D’Abomey , “Mi Ma Kpe Dji”
Super Eagles, “Hey Jude”
Taby Ley Rochereau, “Lal ‘A By”
George Sibanda, “Dali Ngiyakuthanda Bati Ha-Ha-Ha”
Etran Finatawa, “A Dunya”
Alemayehu Eshete & Shebele’s Band, “Tashamanaletch”
Genesis Gospel Singers, “Momma Mo Akoma Ntutu”
Os Kiezos, “Memorias De Lamartine”

I love afropop. I’m always scanning the Afropop Worldwide selections against the emusic collection to grab cool pieces here and there.
You really have to love NPR.
What? No King Sunny Ade?! I know you couldn’t play the 18 minute version of Synchro System…but as Banning put it in his emu review, “one of the world’s most astounding guitarists” who “kickstarted the Afropop movement in the United States.” No love at all?
glad you’re back, loved my friday of afropop
I’m glad! I really enjoyed making this one.
great show. almost all of my downloads this month were from the afrobeat hub.
