It got played on last week’s East Village Radio show, and its grip on me hasn’t loosened one iota since: Rainbow Arabia’s debut EP, The Basta. My really lame shorthand would be something like Gang Gang Dance + M.I.A. + the new Africa hub. If you can imagine such a thing. “Omar K,” the first track, is just killer, a perfect distillation of all I mentioned before. I’m finding it hard to really enunciate what exactly it is I like about this band and this record, except to say I don’t think any of you would regret giving it a shot.
