na: friday edition
Some quick hit new arrivals from the past two days.
Juana Molina, Un Dia: The very well received new record from Juana Molina. I’m gonna listen today. Joe’s into it.
Various Artists, The Rocky Horror Picture Show Original Soundtrack: The rare “original soundtrack” instance where that’s the case! Yep, this has Tim Curry, Meatloaf, etc. Can you hear the excitement in my voice?
Call Me Lightning, The Trouble We’re In: I’m pretty thrilled about Revelation Records hitting the site today, and this Call Me Lightning album — really solid post-hardcore/punk rock — is one of the reasons why. Just a really great record, totally solid. Engine Kid’s Angel Wings is also awesome, although that’s more of a metal album with some hardcore/punk elements thrown in, too. And of course there’s also the very first Sick of It All album. There are way more goodies in the Revelation catalogue that we’ll hopefully be highlighting in the coming weeks, but those are just some that jumped out at me immediately.
The Blithe Sons, The Great Orthocrhomatic Wheel: Dunno much about this except that the samples and long song lengths were promising. The fact that Secretly Canadian distributes it pushes it over the edge.
Yo Majesty, Futuristically Speaking… Never Be Afraid: Very hyped. Now on eMusic.
Wild Beasts, Limbo Panto: And another Domino title. I know nothing about this band, but the samples are very, very good. I think this might end up being an office favorite.

Rocky Horror in time for Halloween! Yeah!
The Blithe Sons’ We Walk the Young Earth (http://www.emusic.com/album/We-Walk-the-Young-Earth-We-Walk-the-Young-Earth-MP3-Download/11025916.html) is fantastic. beautiful acoustic ambient stuff, like Thuja but more melodic, or Skygreen Leopards but way weirder. i will definately be picking up this new one without hestitation.
Yo Yancey, have you managed to persuade those Domino folks in the UK to let us DL their fine wares yet?
There’s so much of my favourite 90s post hardcore/emo/punk stuff on the Revelation label – first 3 Sense Field, all three Farside lps, Quicksand ep. Also unquestionably the best Straight Edge album ever in Gorilla Biscuits Start Today. Iceburn are also great if you like heavy post rock – their version of Starvinsky’s Rites of Spring on the split with Engine has to be heard.
That Juana Molina album is mesmerizing. I’m listening to it now. I’ve been listening to the title track for weeks now – it’s one of my favorite songs of the year.
That Juana Molina, Un Dia is an absolutely beautiful little album. I clicked to listen to it the day it went up heard like two seconds then accidentally clicked to another page (wasn’t logged in so the sample was playing on the website). I sat there refreshing forever to get the album to come back up again because I had seen the cover art but not the artist. Found it and put it on my list to download.
I’m hooked on the Wild Beasts album. I can’t sit still while listening to “Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants”. I love his voice.
Thanks so much for pointing this album out.
