nardwuar vs. pharrell
01Oct08

Nardwuar, infamous Canadian interviewier/personality/Evaporators frontman/general rabble-rouser, has been accosting music celebrities for…ever it seems like. He pissed off Henry Rollins, Courtney Love, Sebastian Bach. You name it. Recently he’s been interviewing rap world dudes and applying the same hyper-researched weirdness technique to general chagrin. Pharrell and Shay from N*E*R*D had their minds pretty much blown. It’s oddly exciting (and touching?) to see how impressed Pharrell is by the stuff Nardwuar (“The Human Serviette”) comes up with.

Side note: I’m pretty sure I’m the only one I know who has genuine affection for the last N*E*R*D single. Not even in a so-bad-it’s-good way! In a good-good way! Oh well…

What doesn’t piss off Henry Rollins?
Good point.
Wow…that N*E*R*D single. Did they intentionally pitch their voices during “ALL THE GIRLS STANDING IN THE LINE FOR THE BATHROOM” to perfectly match this?
That was awesome!!!!
Of course the PB&J was too
I really enjoy seeing Nardwuar interviews. You hinted at it, but it seems to be true that he has really great conversations with those in hip hop, but not those in rock bands. No one ever knows quite what to make of him, but he wows rappers with his record collection and knowledge and they take him seriously. Rock musicians tend to patronize him, which always bugs me. Anyone else notice this?
Yeah, I know what you mean Jonathan. Funnily enough, the one rock-dude who I think may have OVERrespected Nard, almost killing the shock n’ awe vibe was Thurston Moore. Which makes perfect sense…’cuz he’s a total nerd.
I enjoyed this interview immensely. Thanks for posting it.
Pharell’s reactions in this really do seem to be motivated by a kind of generous awe, and are thus touching. Lots of fun to watch.
