17 Dots has to be one of the weirdest music blogs out there in that we might be the only one that does not post music. Ever. We can’t post MP3s to download, and we can’t post streams either. Considering our obvious eMusic affiliation, the bar is raised quite a bit higher with us, and we have been careful to toe that line.

In spite of — or maybe even because of — that, we (and by we I mean you, your friend, Maris, whoever that participates here in any form) have built an amazing community of which I am proud to consider myself a part. No joking there. I mean that. And everyone else who posts on our end would absolutely feel the same.

But anyway, back to the point at hand, that whole thing about not being to, you know, actually play you guys music? That’s over. Tomorrow morning, 17 Dots will debut on East Village Radio, long one of our favorite radio stations anywhere, the kinda place where amateurs like us do not belong, but we’ll take it! Each week we will have two hours to play whatever we want, and the shows will be easily archived for streaming/downloading/podcasting/whatever from the EVR site. You can see our page here.

Right now it’s got only my mug up there, but over time, all of us will hop in rotation to host shows, play tunes, whatevs! The show will air live from 6am-8am EST, or you can snag the podcast afterwards (not sure how long that takes, but will find out). If you click on over to our show page — which is full of fascinating facts about where our name originates — you can also check out what I put together for show #1. I’m really proud of it, and hope you dig it, too.

One more time. Click to visit our show.

So yeah! This is kinda rad! Look for it each week, and we’ll be sure to remind you as well. XOXOXO.

“There are 17 periwinkle dots in every Roy Lichtenstein painting.

“Seventeen dots” were the last words ever written by Charles Dickens (it is believed to be a phrase used in a traditional British children’s game).

The face of fast-food icon Wendy (of Wendy’s fame) is dotted with 17 distinct freckles.

There are 17 dotted i’s on the Magna Carta.

It is often said that before an epileptic seizure, a person will see 17 dots.

If a script is submitted to a film studio without a title, it is given the working name 17 Dots.

After being stung by a Portuguese Man of War south of the equator, a victim will exhibit a welt comprised of 17 distinct dots (of great interest to marine biologists is that above the equator, the welt is comprised of three oblong fleur de lis).

In Morse Code, 17 consecutive dots are meaningless. ”

    • GhostFace, “Walk Around”
    • Burial, “Unite”

    • Dennis Wilson, “Carry Me Home”
    • Crystal Antlers, “A Thousand Eyes”

I’d add lots of more obscure stuff, but whatevs. I’d refrain from requesting Journey and Toto, I suppose (as much as I’d — totally unironically — want to hear them).

Kinda really rad! Nice work, I can’t wait to hear the show.

Man I’m prosaic. I always thought the 17 dots name referred to the 17 dots in the emu logo.

So I assume that the sightings of 17 dots in your list explain the main logo?

Or did that come AFTER the blog? ;-)

Yancey, is there a way to have the Playlist come up on the EVR RSS Feed’s body? I understand if it isn’t (either because it’s not under your control or because you can’t) but I’d love it. Also if possible (??) on the playlist itself (instead of making eMus do it) put stars next to thew Available on eMusic. I really liked the Liars song; too bad it ain’t on emu :(

    oops I forgot to say
I am the Poster formerly Known as MiDoJo
(I wonder if Prince knew that “the _____ formerly known as _______” would become a cultural phrase :)

Funny should ask! I am going to do both of those things this week. (The EVR RSS feed I dunno, but I wanna try to post the playlist here as well. And same with a link to every song available on eMu.)
