Cats In Paris
This week 17 Dots token Brit (i.e. me) has made it off the island and is currently hanging with the other Dotters in NYC. That said I still retain a strong commitment to my side of the Atlantic, so I’m going to totally ignore my surroundings and talk about Manchester-based Cats In Paris.
Cats In Paris make strangely intricate avant pop songs. They’re sometimes charming and goofy; sometimes cabaret creepy, but they’re always interesting. There’s a bit of Animal Collective, several atoms of the Chap, some Patrick Wolf. They made “goojfc,” possibly the happiest song to contain the line “now it’s dead! Now it’s dead!” And they also made “button (part two)” which sounds like a the final radio broadcast from a lost world and “the curse of jonah brian” which is possibly their most pop, but is still about a Spanish zombie. I love them.

I admit at first I thought this was going to sound like that cat that sits outside of my apartment once a month screeching. Pleasantly, it does not, it sort of reminds me of Perfume Tree with a little more noise tossed in.
And if you haven’t….check out Perfume Tree’s Tides Out. Fun times.

Thanks for reminding me about the Cats, anna! I remember adding them to my SFL a week or two ago but then, uh, they got lost in the new list system. I’ve got two days until my refresh and I plan to grab me some Cats quite soon.
One of my favourite new bands of the moment. Remind me a little of Sunset Rubdown who also do that “strangely intricate avant pop songs” thing well. Great fun.
