some point in the future means that it is not in our control, but we are making the case as much as we possibly can.

yancey, what does "some point in the future" mean? is it in the meaning of a record company, like, "urgh.... ok next year, if we have to" or more in the meaning of an addict, like, "hey let's put in on next week, to make autumn more thrilling?"

Numero Group seconded! (although the real joy with that label is reading the extensive booklet along with the music). Sub Pop and DFA also seconded.

Also, to be clear, all of Neon Golden is an essential download. One of the decade's better discs.

I don't have much to add except that seeing Domino and Barsuk turn up here - two labels that have been on my wish list for quite a while - is fantastic. If Sub Pop and DFA suddenly pop on I can probably forget that anything but eMusic exists. Well, maybe Numero Group...

Thanks folks -

Two words: Colossal. Youth. I nearly picked up a used copy at Amoeba the other day because it wasn't on eMusic. Glad I passed it up.

Daniel, the song from Neon Golden for me is One With the Freaks. Even though it's clearly a pop song, it builds like the best dance songs from quiet, a single drum machine, to a glorious emotional peak, one instrument at a time. It's a song of revelation and self-acceptance, the unexpected joy in melancholy that's The Notwist's unique stock in trade. Definitely worth the second purchase.

I've never found Ulrich Schnauss's pieces on compliations, but the full releases on Domino are remarkable. Highlights for me are 2 recent EPs. neverChanger is 3 mixes of that track. parked in compliations, with a genre "Alternative/Punk" in "Indie Rock. Passing By is listed as an album with the genre Electronic in the style Indie Pop. I'm inclined to put both in the category of downtempo/electronic experimental...but the others kind of apply too. They combine for a tasty 7 song treat.

Tromatic Reflexxions by Von Südenfed is a lot of things, but the key for me is The Fall's Mark E. Smith doing electronic dance, which has always been one of his mostly-hidden infatuations, but one perfect home for his much-vaunted repetition, repetition, repetition. And run-on sentences. This one's accurately listed as electronic experimental, but sorely missing the "Punk, Alternative" style categorization.

So anyway, I'm having fun diving into Domino that I hadn't been expecting. If the rest of the class haven't checked out the guide yancey links above, by all means do. A great place to poke into corners you might not have thought of.
