Listen to the Doctor

The recent climax of Series Four of the resurrected ‘Doctor Who’ turned otherwise normal people, myself included, into raging sci-fi geeks. Aside from the simple joys of Daleks speaking German, multiple explosions and every star in every universe evaporating one by one, geekiness was needed to cope with the criss-crossing, looping timelines of every character. ‘Doctor Who’ was a subject of fierce debate and when it finally came to a rain-soaked conclusion two weeks ago a lot of people were left feeling rather empty.
So I was thrilled to come into work the following week and discover the BBC Audiobooks catalogue had started to arrive, including seven titles related to the Classic Series (1963 -1989) of Doctor Who. My highlight so far has been Genesis of the Daleks with Tom Baker in typically eccentric form as the Fourth Doctor.
I’ve also taken comfort from Toby Hadoke’s funny and rather sweet account of his life-long obsession with the Doctor Moths Ate My Dr Who Scarf. Compared to Toby I’m not geeky at all.
