tea parties, guns and valor
I caught Truckasaurus opening for Apparat at Neumos in Seattle at the end of May. I wasn’t paying much attention at first, but then I noticed they were armed with Game Boys and projectors and it piqued my interest. They sounded a bit like a lo-fi Modeselektor, and they were actually more entertaining live than the german duo had been a month prior (was expecting the monkey suit). I checked for their album when i got back and we didn’t have it, but something prompted me to check today and lo and behold it appeared sometime in the past few weeks.
It probably amplifies your enjoyment of Truckasaurus if you have spent countless hours listening to 8-bit music on your NES. The production is pretty lo-fi, but the themes are catchy. I find myself wanting to listen to it again even though I just did to figure out my favorite track, the melodies are just strong enough consistently to make it hard.
I love the playful acid of Howie C. Super Copter seemed really familiar, either because I heard it at the show or it is just close enough to some theme from a video game from my forgotten youth. I think the Konami Code song is the one that gets stuck in my head the most though. The remixes even provide some welcome production polish and detail on the themes from some of the tracks.
Well worth checking out if you dig 8 bit slightly off kilter electronic music.

I like it. Unfortunately it drove my dog into a fit of panic so I probably would not be able to listen to it very often.
Freaking kids.
LOL!
Song 2 sounds especially cool. Reminds me of Copy.
truckasauras rule. i have very little patience for the 8-bit/gameboy/commodore/sidstation thing, but what really makes truckasauras stand out is their musicality — they go way beyond gimmicks, kitsch and FX to write songs that are full of ideas and emotion. their live show also rules (kitschy as it may be!).
It’s kind of like the circuit bending thing. If not applied well it can be rather irritating.
