au, verbs
So there’s this band from Portland called Au who are starting to get some buzz. All of us here absolutely love them, and we will be getting their album, Verbs, a full three weeks before its street date. Above is a video from the album their first album, called “Boute” (thanks Diana!).
Funny thing about how we heard the record. A couple of months ago, one of the bigwigs here at eMusic sent me and a couple other people an email about a friend of his whose son had a band and was curious if we could take a listen. Filled with trepidation (how often do things like that work out?), I started playing the track, which was called “RR vs D” (download it here), and within 30 seconds my mouth was on the floor and Joe was asking me, “who the hell is that?” For the rest of the day we researched what we could find out about the band in hopes that we could use them for eMusic Selects. Alas, they were already signed, but we just knew that there was something special about them.
The album is incredible. Absolutely fantastic, and reminiscent of Person Pitch and Yellow House. You are going to want to download it. For now, watch the video, and check out the single. We are really, really rooting for these folks.

that is one hell of a tune. the only thing i could relate it to was eno circa _another green world_, but less otherworldly, more organic. in other words, i’m stoked as well.
The 1:45 mark and on (of RR Vs D) is one of the greatest moments of the year in indie rock-ish type, uh, moments. And stuff. I’ve heard the whole album and it’s freakin’ great.
The video gave me chills — each of the three times in a row I watched it. Gorgeous.
