A nice surprise arrival on the site today: the Egyptian Lover catalogue.
The West Coast rap scene before gangsta was like many in the mid ’80s, a colorful mélange that took as many cues from the futuristic funk of Afrika Bambaataa as it did from the Jamaican DJ’s whose rhyme styles were the bedrock for future American MC’s. Egyptian Lover was its King. The best album of his? By far, it’s On the Nile, which features hits like “Egypt, Egypt” and “And My Beat Goes Boom.” Also, be sure to check “Computer Love,” which makes clear his obvious debt to Kraftwerk, and my personal favorite “Girls.”

Today? I downloaded this stuff last month when it showed up.
Thanks for the rec. That picture is classic!
Thanks for pointing this out, because I had not noticed it’s arrival.
Excellent news! Out come the white gloves and I’ll be pop lockin’ to Egypt Egypt… classic electro hip hop.
