crystal stilts live
Last night the Good Timing Fairy smiled upon us, as on the same day they were debuted as the newest addition to eMusic Selects, Crystal Stilts played a show at the Knitting Factory in NYC. And they were good! The songs were looser live, as you might expect, and I’m totally gutted to say that they played two songs I hadn’t previously heard that I liked maybe more than anything on the EP. What gives, dudes? The other interesting thing: though there was definitely a Joy Division feel, the vibe they gave off was much, much more Velvets at the Factory, very informal and just kind of playing around, seeing what stuck. And fortunately for the sizeable crowd, it all did.
Also very cool was the crowd itself, which included some of the Grizzly Bear dudes who totally bought Crystal Stilts 12-inches and were plainly into it. Good for them! But even more rad was that Rob from High Places was on the bill playing a solo show (which was absolutely amazing and sounded pretty much like way more fucked-up versions of Diplo’s MIA productions), and that Mary was there as well. They were excited to see Crystal Stilts due to the eMusic stuff, and it was a really great feeling to have two of our first artists colliding all thanks to the site and the program. It seemed like we should all be wearing pledge pins or something. That’s next on the list! Anyway, hope you’re enjoying what’s happening with Selects so far, and if there’s anyone you’d like to suggest, feel free to email us or drop a comment.

I’m starting to wonder if you guys really like Crystal Stilts or not.
How about another Brooklyn band, City Center?
Srsly, Ryan? I love them. What’s giving you the impression that we might not?
A band I wanted to recommend is Howlies out of Atlanta, GA. Saw them a couple of months ago, great show, great dudes and seem to be right in the emusic selects wheelhouse.
