Following on from the rush release of The Raconteurs ‘Consolers of the Lonely’ last week, here’s another bit of surprising news. Bjork, apparently, has a new album underway with an interesting list of collaborators including Spoon’s Britt Daniel and actor Matthew McConaughey.
The news was leaked when McConaughey spoke at a press conference. The Hollywood star informed reporters that he and Bjork had worked together on a series of murder ballads and country rock music. The new album entitled ‘First Day Of The Month’ will also feature Spoon frontman Britt Daniel making his first forays into the world of electronic music, with a focus on Detroit techno and gabba, and a choir of praying mantis, collected by Bjork’s partner Matthew Barney.

‘First day of the month’, eh? :-)

Somehow, she keeps managing to be surprising, huh…impressive.

I’m sorry Alex, but check the date.

Please note that I’m not whining, and I’m not blaming either you or emusic. I’m just OBSERVING that there’s no consoling us, the fat bastard, monstrously arrogant, jaw-droppingly moronic, world-destroying resource hogs of These United States, that we have no “Consolers of the Lonely” on this side of the vast, vast pond.

Like I said, not whining, not blaming you, Anna. I’m just saying.

@Tim, blame Jack White for taking his US releases to a major label…

I’d also make some sarcastic comment about the Bjork album but I’m still waiting for her stuff to reappear for me (I did download Debut and Post from eMusic… would like her new stuff!). OK, just one comment: “Britt Daniel … Detroit techno and gabba”. Strangely, I’d be interested in finding out what an indie rock-produced gabba album would sound like (probably as bad as normal gabba – my least liked of my beloved electronic genres). You see, this is where it becomes an obvious April fool – electro house or breakbeat Spoon remixes, I’d believe ;)

Aphexbr, her last two albums were both washes. It’s one of the few times I’ve actually bought something and wished I could get my money back. I’ve always liked the way she experimented with sound, but there was always something hauntingly musical about the experience. On both Medulla and Vespertine I just found myself bored.

I think Vespertine’s her best work – it’s near the top of my Albums I Wish I’d Written list. I agree with you about Medulla though (Triumph of a Heart aside), and I’d add the Drawing Restraint soundtrack to that. I love unlistenable music, but I just couldn’t listen to it.

Now for something that isn’t an April Fools Joke. . . The New Flash based preview songs feature is awesome. No longer will my WMP playlist be interruppted because I want to hear how bad “Dick’s too Long” by Grumpy is (http://www.emusic.com/album/Grumpy-Dick-s-Too-Long-MP3-Download/11185903.html)
