I spent the majority of today waiting in the minor injuries clinic of Lewisham University Hospital. Fun and games. Turns out I’ve fractured one of those tiny bones in the foot that you only discover the existence of when you break one, but it took me nearly five hours to find that out. But I did have a good opportunity to take a look at my fellow waiters. There was the middle-aged guy in cycling gear with a nasty purple and yellow bruise on his shin; the well-spoken older lady with a blood covered foot, “I was gardening you see” she said to the nurse. There were the two teenage girls, who didn’t let up on the gossip despite the rapidly swelling eye of one: “He never!” “He did!” “He nevaaaah!” It was easy to sympathise with them all. The woman opposite me had no obvious signs of injury and was quite happily plugged into her i-Pod. She had it up loud and had a mid-90s Eurohouse hit on repeat. I knew it, but couldn’t place the name. Terrible stuff, and it didn’t do her any favours either.
“Annie?” called the woman with the clipboard. All the other women looked at each other. None of us were Annie. But Ms i-Pod was chair-bopping away, oblivious. She missed her slot and had to wait another hour. Then I felt sorry for her.
But as I continued my wait, I started thinking of songs I’d miss an appointment for and right now, these are the songs that are making me really happy.

Dragonette ‘I Get Around’
Delta 5 ‘Mind Your Own Business’
Sally Shapiro ‘I’ll Be By Your Side’
Patrick Wolf ‘To The Lighthouse’
Dead Disco ‘Automatic’

What a drag !! Do you manage to have any fun? We are all looking forward to the full Monty when you return
Well at least a hospital waiting room is better than jail, but not by much. K
