Liking Lykke

I’m a little bit in love with Moshi Moshi right now. They’re having such a good run of singles by emerging artists, someone should send their A&R flowers and chocolates. I’ve already raved about Elle S’Appelle on 17 Dots, but now it’s Lykke Li’s turn.

Lykke is a Swedish artist, somewhat in the vein of Robyn and Annie, who’s being tipped as the big thing for 2008. She makes delicate electro-pop with breathy, Swedish little-girl vocals. Her single ‘Little Bit’ is a truly amazing track, check it out if you can.

Full credit to Yancey for pointing her out to me just before Christmas last year.

i really wish more things anna recommends were available in the usa! when things are available, i usually like them. sigh. :(

Love it, Anna! Little Bit has been stuck in my head all week.

it really is her best song, although “tonight” is great, too. ultimately the record is a bit disappointing. i thought it would end up being better than it was. still, excited to see her at sxsw.

I wish too that these Moshi Moshi albums were available in France. I heard about Lykke Li on Absolute Noise blog (a goldmine for a fan of Swedish music like me). I prefer the song “Dance dance dance” though.

Now I know my complaining won’t solve anything, but why on earth would Moshi Moshi not be available in the USA on emusic?

I can see why bigger labels/artists want to split distribution deals (One Little Indian and Bjork spring to mind) but they can’t be selling more than a few hundred records in the USA - seems like emusic is an ideal way to get global distribution and sell some records outside of emusic?

btw, the Annie album (sadly departed from emusic) is worth buying on CD - several times. Hopefully a new album this year!

It’s the opposite, with bigger artists you have small chances of split distribution deals. But with moderately small indie labels they are too small to carry an artist in other countries especially when there’s hype surrounding this artist. In the case of Lykke Li, she’s distributed by Moshi Moshi in UK, but it looks like she’s marketed and distributed by EMI in other countries.
