yeah, this is pretty cool. I guess the lack of a bigger indie-rock sports community is due to the culture around it. I really love playing sports and getting outside, etc. and I think most people probably do, but I can't stand some of the pople who are into it. Baseball= fine. The ESPN cast talking about baseball like it's politics and SO FUCKING IMPORTANT= obnoxious and extremely off-putting. It's like, sports are fine in-and-of-themselves, but I just don't identify with a good 75% of the people who like pro or college sports. The thing Malkmus said about Young Republicans not being "his kind of people" was interesting. At least where I live, being a sporto almost implies that you're also very conservative. I guess that's the problem. My football coach used to have team prayers (in a public HS, mind you) and no one had a problem with it because they were all really into god, etc. No diversity whatsoever. When a buddy of mine left the team because he was into theater more, the coach publicly called him a faggot. It's just that kinda stuff that makes you really sick of it all (no pun.) That said, I went to Pitchfork fest this last year and most of the people there were basically the same except they replaced sports with hipster clothing and bad, flash-in-the-pan indie. So I guess I'm just saying everyone sucks. Fair enough.

Gratuitous slag on Joakim Noah. David Lee is also a Gator --wonder how he escaped all the hate. Malkmus rules nonetheless.

a couple of minor points :

SM is right about the blown save category. However, every owner in the league had an opportunity to weigh in on this ill-advised decision before the season began. Much like this season, it's been hard to find a consensus. Being a commissioner is tough work --- just ask the Used Car Salesman!

re : Matador and the Mets. It should be stressed that neither Chris Lombardi nor Patrick Amory are Mets fans. Neither of these men will give in to intense peer pressure.
