new velvets?!?

The blog Dead Flowers has posted a Velvet Underground live recording from 1967 that contains the first-ever performance of “Sister Ray,” as well as a previously unheard (and great) song called “I’m Not a Young Man Anymore.” I dunno the legality of the thing — it all seems to have originated in this eBay listing — but you can download it from Dead Flowers here. And you should.

Cheers for this link Yancey, downloaded this and had a listen on the bus to work this morning. It’s pretty scratchy and the levels are all over the shop but it’s pretty cool. Heck, it’s the Velvets. It did make me happy, especially after a day in bed with manflu, those wigged out guitar lines and gruffed vocals. No one does passion like them. It’s all about the song and exploring it.

Actually, the sound quality is excellent for a 1967 era bootleg. Good catch yancey…
