Well, it’s now two days on from New Release Tuesday, but I know some of you are hanging on to your downloads for one reason and one reason only: you want to wait until Amishi weighs in. Well, ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over:

The Mountain Goats, “Sax Rohmer #1″: “I just ate my lunch, so I’m having a hard time coming up with anything.”

Nick Lowe, “Cruel to Be Kind”: “Upbeat!”

The Dead C, “Heaven” Suggested by Chris: “Strange.”

Headlights, “Cherry Tulips”: “This reminds me of those old, all-girl bands.”

No Kids, “Bluster in the Air”: “I love Flight of the Conchords. Jermaine is the funny one, but I’m more of a Britt fan. I also love No Kids.”

Low Moda, “Seduction” Suggested by Matthew Lloyd: “I liked this better before the singing.”

Pete & the Pirates, “Come on Feet”: “The new pop anthem — or should be.”

Bon Iver, “Lump Sum” (previous opinion: “Bon Iver is boring.”):
Amishi::I like this a lot.
Joe: Before, you said it was boring.
Amishi: Well, that’s what happens when you play me ten seconds of a song and expect me to have an opinion on it.

Well put! Any write-ins for March?

thanks, cruddy teenage-love flick “10 things i hate about you” and letters to cleo for forever ruining an otherwise joyful nick lowe song -but i suppose i could give it another listen…for amishi.

This is fast becoming one of my favorite 17dots features, though I’d never DL something on her recommendation alone.

Bon Iver, btw, is gorgeous, as is Plants & Animals (but perhaps Amishi would find that boring, too). Glad I saved some DLs for this week. Thanks for the tip a few weeks back, Joe.

Wait till you hear the new Plants & Animals next week…

Yeah, Plants & Animals is that good? I held off on the EP, since I figured it would mostly be reproduced on the debut. Then, last week, a 7 song disc from P&A turned up on eMusic, with no fanfare, and I wondered if that was the debut disc. I guess it wasn’t.

that plants & animals that showed up last week is actually the debut. the one coming on tuesday is their second full-length (maybe third?). we’re actually getting it a full month early because we are so jazzed about it. i think they could be another indie breakthrough (not into the mainstream, mind you, but more into the second echelon of indie rock).

that was my casey kasem impression.

I’m reading that as a rhetorical question Daniel. the EP is pure bliss – well worth the 4 downloads. don’t simply wait for the new record, begin with the EP so you can be waiting with bated breath like the rest of us…

a month early?? I so need to send you guys a belated V-day card

the nick lowe review is my favorite.

Please add Amishi to the “who are these people?” section…I’m dying to know her responses to the skills, movie and ‘almost famous’ questions.

Those who like last week’s self titled Plants & Animals may also like Tropism by Bexar Bexar, also available on emusic; similarly drifting acousticish instrumental stuff; I can’t speak for today’s new Plants & Animals because I don’t have it yet.

I’m dying to hear what Amishi thinks of the new Los Campesinos!

I also think it would be entertaining to re-title this feature as “Amishi Battles the Pink Robots.”

    *sigh*
    (I obviously amuse only myself.)

    hahah. duly noted!

With SXSW fast approaching, Yancey and I needed help navigating the festival’s hectic schedule. There was only one place to turn: Amishi. Over the course of a spirited 15-minute (or so) conversation, Amishi cuts a straight path through this year’s overcrowded Austin lineup. Click through for the carnage.
