Tonight at the Cake Shop in NYC’s LES, two bands who I really, really like and two bands who I don’t know but have heard good things about will be playing a show that everyone should come check out. First there’s Day for Night, whose “Badlands” got Pitchforked last week (you can download it gratis here), who play powerful, mesmerizing dream-rock that I would love even if their singer wasn’t my girlfriend. There’s also Susu, an Unwound-inspired band that Joe and I both adore who you will be hearing much more about in the coming months (listen to “Hands Up” on their MySpace page linked above). And, finally, Le Rug and Object (who I know nothing about). I’m incredibly excited for the gig, and will report back tomorrow with thoughts on the show. Make it out if you can and say hi!

Here’s a Day for Night live clip I shot last summer:

And here’s some Le Rug:

say…might want to take the lens cap off next time you shoot that video thing.

but who am i to cast a negative light on things - especially when i want to talk about something positive and (!!!) is on topic. well, if the topic is limited to “things yancey likes”.

straight to it then…liars. the track “a visit from drum”. that thing is intoxicating. all-consuming. existential. what do you think?
