ace of base!?

One of the biggest dance pop groups of the ’90s hit eMusic today. I’m as surprised as you are.
In listening to Ace of Base’s Singles of the ’90s, it’s kind of amazing to hear just how many songs that I recognized without owning a single AoB CD in my collection. Great pop music is effective in its osmosis. “The Sign,” “Beautiful Life,” “All That She Wants,” “Don’t Turn Around,” “Cruel Summer”? It’s undeniable that this quartet had a great run throughout the decade.
Aside from the hits, what’s interesting to me is the early stuff like their first single “Wheel of Fortune,” whose lo-fi cod-reggae-hop is shocking when taken next to something like the bright-lights big-city dance-pop of their cover of “Cruel Summer.” Definitely worth digging around here.
Also, fun Wikipedia fact of the day: Linn Berggren (the blonde female in the group) has left the group (yes, they’re still together) and had been toning down her involvement for years. These album covers make a whole lot more sense now. If you’re interested, you might want to grab tracks from this one now, rather than later, if you know what I mean.

I’ve just spotted this myself. At around 14, spending the summer in Wales with my friend Leann, I publicly scorned Ace of Base and sat around the sand dunes, talking to Boys and listening to Soundgarden and the Smashing Pumpkins on a boom box, but secretly I rather liked it.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Ace of Base in the new arrivals! I’m definitely going to check out this album, a guilty pleasure!
Yeah, I have to say, these songs are kind of undeniable.
You owe it to yourself to hear the Mountain Goats do “The Sign.” It’s just great.
I’ve heard the Mountain Goats’ version of “The Sign.” It’s very good. I included it in my covers mix.
muy bueno para recordarmelo nunca pasara de moda
