Here at eMu HQ, the editorial and design departments are situated side by side, the dueling stereos often bleeding into each another. DJing primarily indie rock (this week it’s been Blonde Redhead, Battles, the Shins and songs from Juno) all day in the design department is Amishi, one of our designers, a fiercely opinionated young woman who chooses to express her brawny thoughts with friendly smiles, withering stares and long, discursive verbal essays on whatever topic is currently “burning that oven,” to quote a phrase she often uses.

Recently, Joe and I let Amishi borrow a number of promos, and she returned with strong reactions, like “Bon Iver is boring.” (She is totally wrong there, by the way.) Intrigued, Joe and I sat down with Amishi today, played her songs from some of the most popular albums on the site and solicited her reactions. Beware though, this is NO HOLDS BARRED AMISHI!

Cat Power, Jukebox: “It’s nice.”

Black Mountain, In the Future: “I already heard it this morning.”

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Amishi later IM’d me saying she wished to change this response to “psychedelic goodness,” but I summarily rejected it. The above quote more accurately expresses The Essence of Amishi.)

Times New Viking, Rip it Off: “Nothing’s coming to me on this one.”

Glass Candy, Beatbox: “I like the beat.”

Sia, Some People Have Real Problems: “It’s very poppy.”

The Whigs, Mission Control: “Catchy.”

Liam Finn, I’ll Be Lightning: “Why are you asking me these questions, again?”

Mahjongg, Kontpab: “I feel like doing the robot.”

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Amishi did not, in fact, do the robot.)

I’m gonna have to agree with Amishi on TNV. I just wasn’t impressed. I think though she’s right about Sia on the poppyness, it’s really a beautiful album and I can’t help but overplay little black sandles (ok ok I admit I got it as the free download but I love the Zero-Seven album and My brother swears by her other recordings)

I too feel like doing the robot (for not any particular reason).

Am listening to the non-eMusic but still wonderful Beta Band “I know” off of The 3 E.P.s
    :-P

Noted. Actually, opening this up to general suggestions for Amishi reviews is not a bad idea at all… Any others?

I’d like to see Amishi’s reaction to Low Moda’s Gospel Store Front, which is a great album i’m not sure you guys have mentioned at all.
