I’m not a natural list-maker, so this time of year, with its associated polls and sum-ups, sends my brain reeling. But this year, one artist has helped me out enormously; he’s Napoleon IIIrd and he made my favourite album of 2007.

Why? Because he’s produced a collection of faintly mental electronic indie pop that rails against living a small life in a small town. Because his lyrics are clever, witty and spot on. Because he’s doing this on his own and there are choirs and trumpets and anger and joy.

This is the first time ever I’ve just known what my favourite record of the year is. If you haven’t already made your list, give this man a listen.

Thanks for mentioning this one again, Anna. I did download and listen and wasn’t nuts about it — a little too Gorky’s for me — but I could really see a lotta 17 dots folks getting into it.
