na: numbers

sadly not a kraftwerk cover.
I know everyone doesn’t always listen to my electronic recommendations. Or even know what I’m talking about half the time. But here’s one for even the casual fan: the new Booka Shade single!
“Numbers” comes from their excellent DJ Kicks compilation on the K7 label. DJ Kicks is often great, sometimes bad, but rarely in between. Recently they’ve been picking artists who couldn’t match a beat to save their life. Booka Shade, shockingly, actually fall into this category. Their mix was done via computer and includes their own beats stitching many of the tracks together. (It’s all the better for it, btw.)
Anyway, “Numbers” is one of two tracks that Booka Shade produced expressly for the compilation and it’s also the first of theirs to have vocals (that aren’t sampled). I’ve been looking for a copy for my own personal DJ mixes lately and I’m excited to have it in single format finally. It follows the usual Shade formula: a strong pop hook of a melody, inviting drums and that indefinable something that makes them absolutely irresistible to these ears. I’d suggest making that one download investment on one of the best pop house tracks of the year (that’s the (Extended Vocal Mix) I’m talking about, fact fans). You won’t regret it.

I always listen! Isaac and I saw Booka at Studio B this spring and they were great.

“I tend to find that there is a little bit of an indie rock bias in the eMusic offices (especially given the fact that most electronic recommendations tend to be preceded by a disclaimer or apology on 17dots.com), but that doesn’t necessarily reflect what everyone thinks. “
I’m a natural apologizer. Sorry. (Oops.)
