in love: kavinsky

Erstwhile 17 Dots contributor Kendel compared Kavinsky to Jan Hammer today and, honestly, I couldn’t agree more. 1986 is full of sockless, synthetic masterpieces.
All you need to do is listen to one-and-half-minute “Flashback,” which consists of some moody pads and a news report about a crashed Ferrari to know what you’re getting into. Oops, sorry. That’s “a very unique, a very rare Ferrari.” Elsewhere, the synths are set to “percolate,” rushing up and down their arpeggios as if their electronic lives depended on it. “Wayfarer” is probably the best track. Its beat is forceful, the guitars sound keyb’d out and by its end you’ll probably find yourself wanting your own Daytona Spyder 365 to start solving murders and rounding up drug traffickers. Or you’ll just play it again.

Definitely have to agree with the Jan Hammer angle. Electro hasn’t sounded this good to me in awhile.
