It’s Friday. It’s electronic. Let’s go!

Jahcoozi – BLN

Everybody’s second favorite Sri Lankan MC Sasha Perera teams up again with her two production maestros for a Lily Allen-esque tribute to Berlin (not London, get it?). It’s a catchy tune, helped along by Perera’s addictive flow, but my favorite here is Chris de Luca vs. Phono’s mix, which (not coincidentally) sounds a bit like Funkstorung.

Various Artists – Black Label 24

File this one under: Let Todd Ramble For A Moment. Christian Prommer’s “I Came to Play” on this 12″ is pretty much one of the best techno tracks I’ve heard all year. Do you like Villalobos? Listen for the percolating percussion puttering its way underneath the pounding bass. Deep house fan? You don’t get much more trad than the snatch of a sighing, wordless vocal that comes in every few minutes for a few seconds, which lightens the mood considerably. Wagon Repair devotee? The centerpiece is a slithering analogue synth melody that can barely stay in one place for longer than a millisecond. In other words, if you dig house at all (especially of the nebulous minimal variety), do yourself a favor and check this one out. Stunning, deeper than deep stuff.

Taylor Deupree – Landing / Christopher Willits – Plants and Hearts

Two excellent ambient EPs from artists most usually associated with 12k Records. As far as I can tell, both are basically transforming guitar tones into long, meditative pieces that float along beautifully. Be careful, though, not only do they work well when you’re not bothering to pay attention, but they also reward deep study. For a poppier take on this sort of guitar manipulation, please please PLEASE check out Willits’ “Colors Shifting.” You can thank me later.

For a more technical version of what’s actually happening on Willits’ Plants and Hearts, let’s go to Room40’s website.

Incorporating 4hz isochronic pulses and panning at the same frequency, this work encourages the formation of 4hz brainwave patterns associated with states of meditation, deep relaxation, enhanced creativity, light sleep and lucid dreaming.

I liked “BLN’ when it was on the Bpitch Camping 3 compilation, so I’ll be interested in hearing the remixes. Thanks for the alert.
