Two great old shoegazer albums showed up this week:

The Boo Radleys "Everything's Alright Forever"
Not one of the better-known groups on the scene, but this 1992(?) album is great. You can't escape the My Bloody Valentine influence, and some of the woozy guitars sound kind of dated today, but the songs are full of great hooks and energy.

Slowdive "Just For A Day"
Their weakest (and first) album, but still pretty good blissed-out stuff, especially "Catch The Breeze".

Also, the new album by The Decoration. I haven't heard it yet, but I really liked their earlier album "Quiet Songs For Hot Weather" (released back when the band were called Pinq.)

And I never quite got the point of His Name Is Alive, but they have some rabid fans, and their new album came out this week:

yeah i'm curious about the future of the left record. i downloaded today and listened a little, but wanted to digest a bit more before i wrote about it. not sure how i feel so far (i wasn't a big mclusky fan).

as for mum, stephen, what pitchfork thinks is merely context. i've always been agnostic on them, but i know that they mean a lot to many people (including many of my friends).

I'm agreeing with jonderneathica with the new Future Of The Left. It's great stuff, especially if you were a fan of Mclusky. And I'd also like to say that the new Mum is good. But like Yancey said, I guess I can't like it because the Almighty Pitchfork said I shouldn't.

Not much to write about? Wait a minnit -- what about this?

http://www.emusic.com/album/Future-Of-The-Left-Curses-MP3-Download/11088059.html

Two thirds of McLusky, and every bit as aggressive, frazzled and funny as their old band.

Lafayette by Erin McKeown is out today. It's her sixth album I think. Diverse, intimate, killer performances recorded live at Joe's Pub in NYC in early 2007. I just wrote home about it. Seriously, I did.
